2008 GOAL - "More Volunteers in all areas"

Reminder - Volunteer Training Saturday, June 7th, 2008

The Organization

Body & Spirit, Inc. formed in 1999, is a non-profit, volunteer organization serving individuals with special needs. Horseback riding helps those who are mentally and physically challenged achieve a quality of life that is improved, enhanced and enriched.

A team consisting of an instructor, volunteers, and a referring health care provider or education specialist is necessary in order to provide therapeutic horseback riding and hippo therapy services. Based on input from health care providers, educators and parents, or clients' individual program goals are designed to complement their ongoing therapy and education.

Therapeutic riding and hippotherapy differ in a fundamental way. In therapeutic riding, the client influences the horse, learning basic controls to move the horse as desired. In hippotherapy, the horse becomes the tool and a therapist must be part of the team that directs the process where by the horse influences the client through specific movements and activities.

Volunteers are a virtual part of the therapeutic team. We are confident your experience with Body & Spirit will be rewarding. We look forward to sharing our love of helping others challenge and expand their abilities, our love of horses, and the beauty of the outdoors here in the Big Horn Basin. We hope you value your affiliation with Body & Spirit and will spread the good news about the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive benefits of therapeutic horseback riding and hippotherapy.
